He taught us some new games that we really enjoyed he also taught us about measuring things. We really enjoyed making a line from the tallest to the shortest. Who do you think was the shortest?

What's happening...

Wow this term is just flying by!

We are now working on our inquiry unit for the term which is 'Games'. We have begun by talking about what knids of games there are and what kinds of games we like to watch and play.
Please take some time to talk to your children about the kinds of games that you like to watch and play and the kinds of games that you played when you were young.

As you know we have now begun the formal part of PMP. (Perceptual Motor Programme)
This involves the children moving around 5 different stations. Each is run by a parent or teacher who guides the children through the activity. The children were very excited to get started and really enjoyed their first sessions. A big thank you to all the parents who are helping with this. It is a fantastic programme that could not run without you.

We have two children who are currently coming for pre entry visits and will soon begin school in Room 3. There names are Isaac and Tyler. Please say hi to them and their parents if you come accross them.

Sadly we said goodbye to Kaleb this term. He and his family have moved to Australia to spend some time in less shaky ground.  I have given them our blog address so hopefully thay will keep in touch.

Last week Thomas Straker who is a student teacher from the College of Education, University of Canterbury came to visit us. Thomas will be completing a five week placement in Room 3 beginning in week 6. Please introduce yourselves and make him feel welcome.

Lastly a note from me ...
My Maeve is starting school in September! This is a very exciting time for me, and a reminder of what it's like to be in the parent shoes. She has had her first visit which she loved so I hope my turn her will be just as successful.

Look at our amazing 'digital storybooks' we finished!

Guess what!  We have been working hard during our ICT sessions with Mrs Moore to make our very own digital storybooks.  We learnt how to take really good photos using the digital cameras.  Then we used Little Bird Tales to add sentences to our photos.  The last thing we learnt how to do was to add our voices to record the sentences.  We were so clever at using a loud, clear voice!  Mrs Moore and Mrs Waterman think we've done a fabulous job....click on these links to read and listen to our storybooks:

Special thanks to Katy's mum Lisa and Lily's mum Sue, who came in and helped us during our ICT sessions!

Room 3 hard at work

Wow we have had a busy time!

After Miss Browns assembly we wrote cool stories about what we liked about it.
James chose to write at his desk

                                                                    Wow! Hannah is working hard!
Nothing is distracting Kaleb from his story.

Today Mrs Moore is in our room....again!  She was here yesterday too.  We worked so hard on our story writing today.  Bhavil, Emma and Addison published their stories on paper today.  Katy published hers on the computer.  This afternoon we are going outside to do JumpJam with Room 6.  We are really looking forward to that.  Ask to see our dance moves!

Week 8

Packaging

This week we started our unit on Packaging.
First of all we made a bubble map of what we thought packaging was. Then we were allowed to wonder around and invetstigate for ourselves!
Take a look and see what we got up too!

Room 1, 2 and 3 had so much fun investigating together!

Week 7 in Room 3

Making Bread for Matariki

On Monday we were very lucky and Mrs Chapman said that she would stay and help us to make our bread. We were very pleased to have an expert to help us.
When we added the mixture that Ms Waterman had been growing everyone held on to their nose. It was a bit smelly!

In the mixture goes!

                                                                        Mixing it together was fun!

                                                          Rolling the bread

                                                              Still going
Wow look at this Mrs Chapman was an expert!

Yum!
Because of the earthquake we have to wait till next week to eat it!

Week 6 in Room 3

This week is a short but very exciting week for our class.
Last week we were very sad to say goodbye to Miss Gardner and room 1. We have really enjoyed having them with us. Don't worry we will visit often!
We decided that because we have extra space now we would have a move around of our desks. Some people got to move closer to the heater. We now have a really big mat area.

On Wednesday we did a mixing experiment with Room 1. We decided that we would put three colours onto a piece of paper and blow them with a straw to see if we could mix them. It was hard! Check out our photo's.

It takes a lot of puff to move the paint.

Look at our amazing colour mixing

Super Scientists!

In Week 2 some lovely ladies from Science Alive came to visit us in our new school hall. We worked together in small groups to help them solve some mysteries. Someone had intruded in the 3 Bears house and we had to figure out who it was!

We had a great time uncovering mysteries! We figured out it was Lucy who had left muddy footprints at the three bears' house. She also spilt raro on their tablecloth and left a secret message behind.

Welcome to Room 3's very own blog

The idea of the blog is that we can create an easy and fun way to communicate between home and school. You will be able to  read notes from me as well as seeing photos and videos of what the children have been up to at school, and so much more.  Communicating this way means that you have access to an open classroom. You will be able to comment on posts both from me and the children.
